Ken Eriksen, 2020 Olympic Coach, has some wise advice for new coaches: Be a teacher first and a coach second.
As a coach, your primary job is to get to know and understand your players. Develop a strong relationship with each and every player where you know them both as a person and as an athlete. A strong relationship foundation will enable you to effectively motivate them, develop their technical skills and keep them passionate about the sport. As a new coach, it's also important to never stop learning from your players, coaching staff and more experienced coaches. Stay eager about the sport and about how you can improve both your own coaching skills and your team's skills.
