Coach Patty Gasso believes that women softball players in this generation excel under a “Circle of Safety” culture. In this environment, they feel comfortable being themselves and communicating openly, and they don’t worry about failing or disappointing the coach when they make mistakes.
To create this type of culture, Coach Gasso strives to be more curious than furious when things go wrong. Instead of barking at her players, she asks questions to find out why players responded a certain way. This allows her to better understand the situation and makes her more relatable.
