Train your outfielders on body control and the drop-step by combining two skills in one. In this drill from Sammi Gyerman, athletes practice shoelace catches and over-the-head outfield catches while working at a fast pace.
How it works: Start with two cones about 15 ft. apart. The player starts at the back cone in an athletic stance. When coach says go, she sprints forward and receives a shoelace catch from the coach. Then, she drops the ball on the ground, takes a drop-step, and immediately sprints back to receive a fly ball over the head from the coach. Repeat until the player is comfortable making both catches.
Requirements: Two cones, a ball, and a glove.
