Coach Ken Eriksen demonstrates how a runner can round first base and then return to the bag by using her field vision and making a quick decision about whether to return to first base or make a run for second base.
Once the runner gets around the base to make a sharper cut to second base, the inside shoulder drops to make an easier turn. The runner then searches for the ball; if the outfielder has the ball, the runner then returns to first base while maintaining vision of the field. It's imperative that the runner doesn't turn her entire body back to first base and lose vision of the play.
