To get more calls in your favor, JustSOFTBALL Instructor Deb Hartwig offers these 3 tips:
- Know the Rules - Players who understand the ins and outs of the game have greater credibility. They’ll have better luck getting the ump to listen to them when a dispute arises on the field.
- Be a People Person - A player who speaks respectfully to an umpire—rather than being combative—builds rapport that can pay off during the game.
- Avoid Sabotaging Behavior – Coaches who continually yell at the umpire or prompt their catchers to delay setup can sabotage their team’s ability to get the ump on their side.
Listen as Hartwig explains how manipulating the umpire in positive, rather than negative, ways offers a greater benefit to your team.
