When training hitters to look for a particular pitch, UCLA's Kirk Walker focuses on sequencing and setting up combinations. To apply this at practice, he may tell his players: "Today we're going to face a pitcher who's really good on the curve and the flip drop." Then he'll instruct them to sit on a certain pitch and to look on a certain zone. It can be challenging not to swing when a strike crosses the plate, so batters will need to truly commit to the exercise.
