Your first baseman must be prepared to field a bunt. But what happens when the ball is hit with force? Upon ball contact, the player at first base should drop-step toward the infield, spot the base and get in position with feet straddling the bag. This puts her in prime position to step back and find the bag with one foot, then step forward with the other to receive the ball.
