The level of proficiency in steals and hitting depends on other factors such as the batter's hitting percentage, number of outs, runner on base, etc. If you want to score more runs on offense, you need to have offensive strategies in place. This involves understanding the numbers.
Out of thousands of scenarios, Coach Randy Schneider put together a list of percentages for stealing in hitting depending on runners on base. For example, in a first and third situation, stolen base proficiency rises by 8%. However, scoring opportunity decreases by 25%. Therefore, as a coach, you need to be aware of these statistics and base your decision off of the stats as well as outs, the hitter, on-deck batter, etc.
