Coach Tommy Santiago discusses how highly-coveted recruits can best prepare themselves for the date when they start getting recruited by college coaches: September 1st of their junior year.
As a freshman and sophomore, athletes should already begin thinking about their future in college softball. Considering your options and taking a methodical approach to the recruiting process can take a variety of forms, but a few ideas to keep in mind:
Attend college camps of programs you're interested in.
Start keeping a list of your top 5-10 school choices, and constantly re-assess those programs and change the list if necessary.
If, come Sept. 1, coaches from programs you're not interested in reach out, find peace with being polite yet firm about not being interested. This will help keep the amount of stress and pressure you feel in the recruitment process to a minimum.
