Amber Freeman shows two hitting drills that work on weight transfer. Weight transfer is key for softball hitters to create power and balance in their swing. These two drills are great for players of all levels: youth to advanced softball athletes.
Drill #1 - The Hop-Back-Drive: Using a tee, the hitter hops back onto their back foot and then drives through their complete swing. This drill emphasizes a full transfer of weight and getting the player's back hip through the swing.
Drill #2 - Crossover Step: Hitting off a tee, the player starts in the back of the batter's box and takes a cross-over step to approach the ball. Unlike the slapping step, the approach in this drill should be slower and deliberate. The cross-over step prior to making a complete swing enables the hitter to feel a full transfer of weight and their back hip rotating through the swing.
