When preparing her team to compete, Carol Hutchins’s uses this Navy SEALS quote as her guide: “Under times of pressure, you do not rise to the occasion; you sink to the level of your training.”
In other words, you can’t allow your athletes to put in average effort at practice if you want them to perform at a high level during games. Instead, Carol strives to make practices harder than games. As a result, games feel easy and her players perform at their peak because they’ve prepared by pushing themselves to their max every day at practice.
