How quickly can your catchers transition from blocking a pitch to making a throw to second? If you're not practicing this scenario, your catchers won't be prepared to execute a good throw when this situation happens during a game. Get them to take their catching skills to a higher level with the blocking and throw-down drill from Coach Jaime Wohlbach.
Purpose: To practice throwing from the knees after a blocked pitch.
How it works: A catcher assumes her squat position behind home plate. A coach throws a ball into the ground, so the catcher must block it. The catcher then quickly gathers the ball and makes a throw from her knees to second base.
Requirements: One player, catcher gear, gloves, a home plate and second base, balls, a coach and a field
